Corydalis for Chronic Pain – Healing Blends

Corydalis for Chronic Pain

Corydalis – a member of the poppy family, and like many Papaverceae – is an anodyne, and affects the central nervous system, cardio tonic, and has muscle-relaxant properties. Corydalis has been used and studied for centuries.

Corydalis is currently being studied for use in cancer, dysmenorrhea, and hypertension; however, the primary focus is on the herbs use as a natural pain reliever.

Recent studies published in the Journal of Biology identified Corydalis as a natural substance that holds special promise for those with persistent chronic pain. This means it has the potential to offer relief of chronic, agonizing pain from arthritis, back pain, and pain crisis caused by Sickle Cell Disease.

Corydalis contains the alkaloid bulbocapnine, which is used in medicine to treat convulsions, Parkinson’s disease and Meniere’s disease. It has been used in the treatment of muscular tremors and vestibular nystagmus.

Corydalis and Chronic Pain

“We have good pain medications for acute pain: codeine or morphine, for example,” Olivier Civelli, a professor at the University of California, Irvine, and senior author of the study, said in a press release. We do not have good medications for chronic pain.” Using the chemical behavior of morphine as a template researchers found that Corydalis had a positive effect on the three primary types of human pain — acute, inflammatory, and chronic/neuropathic pain.

Corydalis is an effective pain reliever that has none of the side-effects of opium and other drug medications. Its properties include ‘Invigorating the blood’, making it useful for a wide variety of painful conditions, such as menstrual pain, abdominal pain, chest pain, hernia pain, and pain from traumatic injuries and chronic pain caused by Sickle Cell Disease.
